About ACB Refurb: the breaker workshop behind the name

ACB Refurb is the US face of a specialist breaker and contactor workshop in West Yorkshire, England. The engineers who strip your breaker are the same people who answer your email. There's no call center between you and the bench.

Who we are

Switchgear people, not a general electrical firm

ACB Refurb is a trading name of Circuit Breaker Sales & Maintenance Services Ltd (CBSMS Ltd), registered in England and Wales under Company No. 14239492 and incorporated in 2022. The team brings more than 20 years of installing, maintaining and repairing low-voltage breakers.

In the UK the same workshop trades as Circuit Breaker Repair (circuitbreakerrepair.co.uk), and the company as CBSMS (cbsms.co.uk), which handles switchgear maintenance and servicing. ACB Refurb is the name we use for US customers. Whichever name is on the website, your contract, warranty and paperwork are with CBSMS Ltd.

Our work is delivered under CBSMS Ltd's ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) management systems.

The workshop

Benches, test equipment and donor stock

We work from a workshop at Dale Court on South Kirkby Business Park, Pontefract. Breaker and contactor repair is what it is set up for.

The workshop handles strip-downs, mechanism rebuilds, contact replacement, coil and charging-motor replacement, protection-unit repair and contactor restoration. Secondary injection testing is done in-house, including with ABB's own Ekip test kit for Emax trip units.

We keep donor stock for obsolete ranges and machine components that can no longer be bought. That is what lets us repair Masterpact M, first-generation Emax and TeSys F contactors when the manufacturers have moved on.

We quote a fixed price after strip-down, not an estimate that grows. If a unit isn't worth repairing because of fault damage, safety-critical wear or parts that can't be had, we say so.

Why a UK workshop

For US sites with European switchgear

European turbines, production lines and switchboards arrive in the US with the breakers and contactors their designers chose: Masterpact, Emax, Siemens 3WL, Eaton IZM, TeSys LC1F. In the US those are IEC-frame units, and the domestic service channels are set up for the North American ranges. For the first-generation frames, repair capability is close to absent.

These ranges are our everyday work in the UK, and we already ship them across the Atlantic for US customers. Distance is handled with air freight: about 3 days each way, with 2–5 working days in the workshop, or 1–2 days on Express. You choose DAP or DDP, and we prepare the commercial invoice and repair-and-return paperwork.

For urgent faults, we hold many tested exchange units in the UK* that ship the day a fault is reported. Where there are too many units to fly, our engineers can travel to your US site.

*Subject to model and rating.
