How it works
From nameplate photo to breaker back in its cell
One point of contact, a fixed price before any repair, and a published timeline. Most units are back on your site within two weeks of collection.
- Air freightAbout 3 days each way
- Workshop2–5 working days
- Express workshop1–2 working days
- PriceFixed before repair

The timeline
Two services, both published
Times are working days. Customs clearance at each end adds time that depends on your broker and the port, so plan on a day or two for it.
| Stage | Standard | Express |
|---|---|---|
| Air freight to our UK workshop | About 3 days | About 3 days |
| Strip-down, diagnosis, repair and test | 2–5 days, by severity | 1–2 days |
| Air freight back to your site | About 3 days | About 3 days |
| Typical total | About 8–11 days | About 7–8 days |
Can't be without the breaker that long? We hold many tested exchange units in the UK* and can fly one out the day you report a fault, then repair your original as the next spare. How exchange works. *Subject to model and rating.
Step by step
What happens, and who does it
Send the nameplate
Photos of the nameplate, the trip unit and the unit in its cell, plus what happened. We confirm we can do it and quote diagnosis and freight the same working day.
Pack & collect
We send packing instructions and book the collection and air freight, on our account or yours.
Paperwork
We prepare the commercial invoice and repair-and-return documents. You choose DAP or DDP and we quote on that basis.
Strip, quote, repair
Full strip-down and wear measurement, then a fixed price before we repair. Nothing is replaced without your approval.
Test & return
Secondary injection, contact and insulation resistance, certificate, photos. Crated and flown back to your door.
What to send us first
The faster we can identify the unit, the faster the quote. A phone photo is fine.
- The breaker nameplate: make, type, frame size, rating, serial
- The trip unit front panel and its rating plug
- The unit in its cell, or the drawout carriage if it's withdrawn
- Accessory voltages: closing coil, shunt trip, undervoltage, motor
- What happened: won't close, won't charge, tripped and won't reset, burning smell, test failure
- Your shipping preference: DAP or DDP, and whether you need Express or an exchange unit
What comes back with the unit
- A test certificate with secondary injection results for each protection element, against the published trip curve
- Contact resistance per pole and insulation resistance at 500 V
- A written description of what we found, what we replaced and why
- Before and after photographs
- A parts list, and the customs documents for your broker
- The warranty: 24 months on a full overhaul, 12 months on a repair
See exactly what that looks like on a real Emax certificate and a real LC1F certificate.

When air freight isn't the right answer
Exchange units
Many tested units held in the UK*, flown out the day a fault is reported. Your original is repaired and becomes your next spare or is credited.
Exchange unitsEngineers on your site
When a site has too many units to fly, our engineers travel to the US and complete the repairs there, in your shutdown window.
On-site in the USFleets and frameworks
Wind fleets and multi-site operators can agree a standing arrangement: pricing by frame, a rolling exchange pool and one set of paperwork.

Questions about the process
How long does a breaker repair take from the US?
About 8–11 working days door to door on our standard service: roughly 3 days of air freight each way and 2–5 working days in the workshop, depending on what we find. Express cuts the workshop time to 1–2 days. Allow a day or two for customs clearance at each end.
Do I pay before you know what's wrong?
We quote diagnosis and freight up front. After the strip-down you get a fixed price for the repair with photos of what we found, and nothing is replaced until you approve it.
Who books the freight?
We can book collection and air freight on our account, or use your forwarder and account if you prefer. Either way we send packing instructions so the unit travels safely.
What if the breaker isn't worth repairing?
We tell you after the strip-down, with the reasons and photographs, before any repair cost is incurred. Where a repair isn't sensible we can usually offer a tested exchange unit instead.
Can you work to our QA paperwork?
Yes. Send your format and we'll complete it alongside our own certificate. Documents are in English, with imperial or metric units as you prefer.
Send us the nameplate
A photo of the nameplate and the fault is enough for a first answer. We reply the same working day with a recommendation and a price for diagnosis and freight.
